The fireweed around Fairbanks is nearing its peak and this photo, taken on August 6, shows it perfectly. The flowers have climbed almost to the top of the stalk, with just two or three rows left to bloom.
Alaskans often say that when the fireweed reaches the top, summer is over. So right now, we’re in that fleeting in-between of the final stretch of summer, with long evenings, warm air, and a hint of change in the breeze.
